I would like to express my opinion of what a unique and wonderful place Casa de Nacimiento is. I had been apprenticing in a homebirth practice for about a year before I did my internship here. It happens, though that my preceptor had been an instructor here, so it was a natural course of events that I come down here to train for a little while. It was very difficult to be apart from my family, but I learned so much that I couldnt help but think that it was completely worth it. I feel that I gained what would have been years of experience in a homebirth practice in the three months that I interned. I also met some wonderful people that I will never forget.

It is hard. Boot Camp for Midwives as my husband called it. You must come with an open mind and the determination to work possibly harder than you ever have before, but the rewards match what you put into your stay here.

After my internship, I went back and apprenticed with my preceptor for another year to polish my skills that I had learned and let them sink in a bit more. I have even returned to Casa as part time staff. I feel like I have almost come full circle. As more and more clients come back to deliver their next babies who delivered when I was a student, I feel a sense of pride and community. I am always thankful of the gift I have been given here.
