Wouldn't have missed this experience for the world! After four years of doula work and one year apprenticing with a homebirth midwife I yearned for more hands-on experience. I got this and more from my three month internship at Casa. Not only did I catch babies, but I left feeling confident doing vaginal exams, newborn exams, and PKUs (all on my own), as well as an intimate look into the Hispanic birthing culture; so different from everyone else I'd worked with in Denmark or California. Still, I think the most important thing I did at Casa was to rebuild my faith in the normal birth and to confirm my passion for midwifery. Now I feel ready to continue my education and begin my life as a midwife.
